The Center for Interventional Immunology collaborates with biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners to evaluate investigational therapies for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Through multicenter clinical trials, the team studies treatments designed to preserve insulin-producing beta cells, modulate immune responses, and improve long-term outcomes for people living with or at risk for T1D.
These studies evaluate therapies across multiple stages of disease, from delaying progression before diagnosis to preserving beta cell function after diagnosis. In addition to evaluating safety and efficacy, researchers investigate how therapies affect immune and metabolic pathways associated with T1D.
By working closely with industry partners, academic collaborators, and research participants, the Center for Interventional Immunology helps accelerate the development of new therapies and advance the goal of preventing, delaying, and ultimately improving treatment for T1D.

The Speake Lab analyzes Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet data to better understand how type 1 diabetes develops and improve approaches to monitoring people at risk for the disease.
