Illuminations Luncheon Highlights Fight Against Immune System Diseases
Nearly 400 guests learned about the breakthrough medical research in fighting allergies and autoimmune diseases during the Illuminations Luncheon on Oct. 27 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. They also used the opportunity to generously support Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) with a record breaking $160,000.
BRI President Jane Buckner, MD, presented “From Allergy to Autoimmune Diseases: How BRI Fights Them All.” Lori Carter discussed her experience living with lupus, one of the 80 different autoimmune diseases, and how it affects her family. A research showcase highlighted clinical and translational research, the role of genetics in disease and how technology accelerates research advances. Steve Raible, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Anchor and radio announcer for the Seattle Seahawks, served as Emcee.
Attendees were recognized for their past giving which supported a groundbreaking discovery in allergy research. Thank you to everyone who attended and sponsored this year’s event which allows innovative research to continue, improving people lives.
