Sandra Lord, MD, co-leads the Benaroya Research Institute Diabetes TrialNet Clinical Center with Kurt Griffin, MD. Together, they oversee one of TrialNet's international clinical centers dedicated to predicting, preventing and slowing the progression of type 1 diabetes. The center conducts clinical trials evaluating therapies designed to preserve insulin-producing beta cells, delay disease onset and advance new approaches to T1D prevention. Through TrialNet's Pathway to Prevention study, the team also identifies individuals at increased risk for type 1 diabetes and follows them over time, helping researchers better understand the earliest stages of disease and evaluate interventions before symptoms develop.
