Dr. Lacy-Hulbert is an immunologist whose research explores how the body’s innate immune cells, including macrophages and dendritic cells, maintain the delicate balance between immunity and tolerance. He earned his bachelor’s degree and doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge and completed postdoctoral training at University College London. He continued his research as a United Kingdom research council fellow at the University of Edinburgh before joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Cancer Research, where he was a visiting scientist and later a visiting professor from 2003 to 2007.

In 2007, Dr. Lacy-Hulbert joined the Department of Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital as an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and director of the Developmental Immunology Program. He established his laboratory at Benaroya Research Institute in 2013, where he leads a team dedicated to understanding the molecular signals that guide immune cells to protect the body. He also serves as an affiliate professor at the University of Washington.
