Megan Smithmyer, PhD is a Staff Scientist at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) in the Center for Interventional Immunology. Her current research focuses on understanding the diversity immune response in the healthy adult immune system. By mapping the boundaries of a “normal” immune response, her work contributes to our understanding of the ways the immune system deviates during disease. Her other work includes understanding COVID-19 response in people with diabetes.

In an article recently published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) scientists, led by Megan Smithmyer, PhD, Alex Hu, PhD, Jane Buckner, MD, and Cate Speake, PhD, investigated the range of variability that exists among the immune systems of healthy people.
