If someone in your family has type 1 diabetes, we urge you to get the rest of your family screened at no charge. A simple blood test could detect an increased risk for type 1 diabetes years before symptoms appear and determine eligibility for a prevention trial. This test is available to eligible family members of people with type 1 diabetes through an international research effort led by the National Institutes of Health.
