Kenneth R. Wilske Lecture Series in Science and Medicine

Nona Sotoodehnia, MD, MPH
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, University of Washington
Attending Physician, Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington  Medical Center
Genomics of Heart Rhythm and Arrhythmias
Thursday, February 16
9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
BRI Auditorium

Dr. Sotoodehnia's current research interests lie in understanding the genetics and molecular mechanisms of heart rhythm and arrhythmias, with a focus on sudden cardiac death and atrial fibrillation. Her work utilizes both genomic and traditional epidemiologic approaches to investigate the association of genetic and non-genetic risk factors with sudden cardiac death and atrial fibrillation. Furthermore, Dr. Sotoodehnia is examining the association of these genetic variations with intermediate phenotypes that predispose to arrhtyhmias. She is also assessing the influence of specific genetic, environmental, and pharmacologic factors on these associations. Identifying these genetic factors will not only provide insight into the mechanisms of abnormalities in cardiac conduction, repolarization and arrhythmias, it will also have significant public health implications for risk stratification and prevention of sudden cardiac death and atrial fibrillation.  This seminar is hosted by Dr. Amemiya.
