Position: Facility and Safety Coordinator

Responsibilities and Qualifications:
The Facility and Safety Coordinator provides support services to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the research laboratories and the facilities. Responsibilities are split equally between the Facility and Safety-related duties, which include:
• Providing technical support and assistance to ensure compliance with various safety practices, regulations and policies.
• Assisting in addressing safety infractions and safety improvements.
• Maintaining safety files including Material Safety Data Sheets and workforce radiation safety files.
• Coordinating the laboratory safety training program and providing laboratory training sessions when necessary.
• Arranging for service and preventive maintenance for lab and building equipment. Ensuring that service is completed satisfactorily. Maintaining service contracts. Ensuring that safety equipment is validated and certified.
• Tagging and documenting facility assets.
• Overseeing lab glassware washing services, ordering related supplies and serving as backup for glass washing functions when required.
• Serving as backup for Shipping and Receiving Clerk as needed.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and some higher educational or vocational training specializing in either equipment repair, building maintenance or environmental health and safety. Experience working within a biomedical facility is preferred. Experience in building maintenance or equipment repair may be substituted for vocational training. Experience and/or ability to train employees in lab safety highly desirable. Other requirements include 6 to 12 months of experience working in equipment repair, building maintenance or a safety related discipline.
