Position #: 08-50
Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Department: Allen Lab
Status: Full time
Responsibilities and Qualifications: The research will focus on using rodent and human skeletal muscle cells in conjunction with engineered scaffolds for the repair of traumatic skeletal muscle injury. Cell biology endpoints include improving the survival and regeneration of native muscle following ischemic injury, and for engineered muscle constructs, improving cell survival in the constructs, regulating proliferation versus differentiation both in vitro and in vivo, increasing construct contractile efficacy and vascularization, and reducing fibrosis post implantation.
Required Skills/Licenses/Certification/Education:
A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, is required along with a strong background in myocyte cell biology, with demonstration of excellent writing and communication skills. Required skills include tissue culture, Western Blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and basic electrophysiology. Relevant desirable experience would include regenerative medicine/stem cell biology as relates to skeletal muscle regeneration, assessment of cell viability in 3-D culture and cell/tissue ischemia/reperfusion injury. Experience with small animal surgery is a positive. We are looking for a scientist with skills that cross over from basic to translational research.
