Background

Dr. Sanda received his undergraduate degree (‘93) at the University of California, San Diego and medical degree (‘97) at the University of California, Davis and completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He pursued a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Sanda joined Benaroya Research Institute as an Assistant Member and Clinical Investigator in September 2007. In addition to his research at Benaroya Research Institute, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Children’s Hospital Regional Medical Center in Seattle where he is involved in teaching and the clinical practice of pediatric endocrinology.

Areas of Research

Dr. Sanda’s research focuses on the diabetes autoimmune process, including participation in all clinical trials in the Diabetes Program at Benaroya Research Institute. Additionally he is collaborating with bench scientists at BRI on translational immunology projects related to type 1 diabetes through the JDRF Center for Translational Research. Understanding the immunologic influences on glucose metabolism in type 1 diabetes is his main scientific interest, and he is currently developing both clinical and laboratory projects in this area.
