Sage Laboratory

The Sage Laboratory is a leader in the fields of extracellular matrix biology and the effects of matricellular proteins on cell behavior. Major projects include:

1. Characterizing the functions of the matricellular protein SPARC (secreted protein, acidic and rich in cysteine) and the SPARC-like protein SC1/hevin during angiogenesis, adipogenesis, and tumor growth and metastasis.

2. Understanding cell-matrix interactions at the molecular level with an emphasis on the development and function of mammalian connective tissue, fat, and blood vessels.

3. Defining mechanisms of cell adhesion and cell cycle regulation in the context of extracellular signaling.
